WAXHAW, NC – Located outside of downtown Monroe, Aw Shucks Farms is a great old-time family-fun afternoon. For a small fee, you can paddleboat on the little lake, fish, visit the petting farm, go pumpkin bowling or pick your own pumpkin and wander the corn maze, along with its fence maze cousin. It has a large outdoor picnic venue, a country store and diner and lots of play areas.
Beautiful Fall weather makes this a great outing with the kids. There’s tons of stuff to do to keep them entertained. Most of the activities are outdoors so easy to maintain social distancing.
Food is part of the fun there. Along with the traditional burgers and hot dogs, there are a variety of fun festival foods like funnel cakes, roasted corn on a stick, homemade ice cream sandwiches, frito pie and homemade donuts. The brand new Apple Bin offers country favorites like candy apples, and fresh apple cider.
There is very often live music and you can check their Facebook page for upcoming events. The Farms is mainly opened weekends right now but be sure to check the website awshucksfarms.com for up-to-date information.
A welcome note – As of this month, Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens has re-opened for public visits on a limited basis Thursday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm. Advance tickets are required for both members and the general public. Tickets are available online the Monday prior only.
